FINANCIAL SERVICES DEVELOPER COMMUNITY BROWN BAG EVENT

Moving into a Serverless World with Knative

June 8, 202112:00 PM - 1:00 PM(GMT-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
The financial industry is going through a radical change; the new generation of customers expects more precise, immediate, and comprehensive services. The emerging fintech offerings completely reshape the industry. New regulations are constantly emerging and need to be applied timely.  Industries are moving toward becoming cloud-native, more precisely Kubernetes-native. This completely changes the mindset of deployment, packaging, software development, and even the structures of how the IT teams are formed.
Several open source technologies are being built around Kubernetes. Serverless and CI/CD are also becoming Kubernetes-native. But stitching together these discrete solutions on your DIY Kubernetes cluster involves a good amount of work and getting all these enabled to run in your data center is a much bigger challenge.
Kubernetes-native serverless with Knative grants you the “magical” ability to scale to zero if your application component is underutilized. Perhaps more importantly, the skills and code you craft with Knative and Kubernetes are portable to all of the big cloud providers. In this session, we will show you how to get started and how to keep rocking with the interesting capabilities of Knative Serving and Knative Eventing.
What you will learn:
  • Knative installation and setup
  • Your first Knative Serverless service
  • Traffic distribution with Blue/Green
  • Traffic distribution with Canary
  • Auto-scaling behavior modification
  • Event sources and sinks
  • Apache Kafka events
