Passionate about open source? Join us at the next Chicago RHUG!

This event will feature two presentations: "OpenShift Service Mesh: Istio on OpenShift" and "The 5 Must-Do’s When Implementing Cloud-Native Security in Red Hat OpenShift." Please RSVP to save your seat - hope to see you there!

OpenShift Service Mesh: Istio on OpenShift

Are you adopting Microservices Architecture in your enterprise? Then let's talk about Istio. Istio is an open source technology that is expected to change the way the microservices are connected, managed and secured. This technology is pushed by players like Red Hat, Google, IBM, Lyft and many more.

Istio is an open platform for providing a uniform way to integrate microservices, manage traffic flow across microservices, enforce policies and aggregate telemetry data. Istio's control plane provides an abstraction layer over the underlying cluster management platform, such as Kubernetes, Mesos, etc.

Istio provides declarative traffic management features such as request routing, discovery and load balancing, handling failures, fault injection, rules configuration and all. Using Envoy as the side-car Istio can do all this awesome stuff in a non-code intrusive way as opposed to other frameworks (such as NetflixOSS services).

In this session, we will introduce you to Istio and demonstrate running Istio on Openshift with OpenShift Service Mesh. We will also show how running Istio on OpenShift provides enhanced observability and visualization using tools like Kiali and Jaeger built into Service Mesh. If you are a developer or an application architect building or learning to build microservices, you should not miss this session.

The 5 Must-Do’s When Implementing Cloud-Native Security in Red Hat OpenShift

Security is one of the biggest challenges in the day 2 operations journey for the cloud-native stack. New paradigms like containers, microservices, and hybrid cloud workloads disrupt the way enterprises implement security processes. Sysdig shares the five (5) most important steps for securing applications and implementing DevSecOps processes in the OpenShift container platform. You will learn how to:

  • Orchestrate Red Hat OpenShift platform security features
  • Integrate vulnerability management across your CI/CD pipeline and software supply chain
  • Manage regulatory compliance, audit, and risk
  • Detect and respond to security incidents performing forensics
  • Maintain visibility into containerized apps to provide reliable operations
