Modern Application Development Roadshow

Tuesday, 12 September, 2023 | 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM | HKT

OVERVIEW

The Modern Application Development Roadshow is the premier hands-on experience for you to learn how Red Hat's technologies facilitate application modernization, to build, run, and manage new applications in the Hybrid Cloud with Red Hat OpenShift. The Developer Track offers tailored hands-on labs that delve into how Red Hat OpenShift assists in determining suitable legacy applications for modernization, examining the refactoring methodology and deploying apps, along with various strategies to employ CI/CD pipeline and GitOps to streamline the delivery of applications.

In this half-day workshop, you will work in a hands-on lab with sample legacy applications to learn:

  • How to use Red Hat assessment tools to identify potential issues and risks when modernizing legacy applications
  • Refactoring the legacy applications based on recommendations given by the Red Hat assessment tools
  • Hands-on application modernization experience
  • Deploying the modernized application as a container running on Red Hat OpenShift
  • Creating a CI/CD pipeline and use the GitOps engine on OpenShift to automate the software delivery process

Objectives:
This workshop aims to offer Application Architects, Developers, Development Team Leads, DevOps Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers a practical glimpse of how Red Hat OpenShift can be a driving force in an application modernization journey. The intent is to equip participants with the ability to utilize Red Hat OpenShift for analyzing, modernizing, and deploying applications in a cloud-native and container environment, thereby accelerating the software delivery process.

To get the most out of this workshop, participants are expected to be familiar with general application development concepts and have basic skills in these areas:

  • Basic programming skills, preferably using Java
  • Basic knowledge of using application build tools (e.g. Apache Maven)
  • Basic knowledge of using Linux commands, knowing the basics of containers is a plus

What you’ll learn and experience:

  • Use Red Hat Migration toolkit for Applications (MTA) to analyze an application for modernization
  • Identify potential issues and risks when transitioning legacy applications to a container-ready state
  • Refactor code to remediate modernization issues using the MTA analysis report
  • Use OpenShift Binary Build to deploy a modernized application to OpenShift
  • Build a modernized application to OpenShift using OpenShift Pipeline built on Tekton
  • Deploy a modernized application to OpenShift using OpenShift GitOps built on ArgoCD

Note:
Red Hat is committed to the health and safety of our customers, partners, and employees. All attendees will be expected to follow Red Hat and local guidelines regarding COVID-19. Please do not attend if you are feeling ill or have any symptoms of a viral infection. Please note that all protocols are subject to change.
