Red Hat Ansible Automation Workshop for Charter Communications

In the Red Hat Ansible Automation linklight workshop, you will learn how to use Ansible for routine tasks such as backing up device configurations, parsing command output, and making configuration changes to a multi-vendor network. 

Through these exercises, you will gain hands-on experience describing automation with YAML-based playbooks to manage your network. After this workshop, you will see how simple and powerful the Ansible way of automation can be.

Exercise 1.0 - Exploring the lab environment
Exercise 1.1 - Writing your first playbook
Exercise 1.2 - Module documentation, registering output and tags

Section 02 - Using Ansible to Configure, Backup and Restore
Exercise 2.0 - Updating the router configurations using Ansible
Exercise 2.1 - Backing up the router configuration
Exercise 2.2 - Using Ansible to restore the backed-up configuration

Section 03 - Using Ansible to Parse Information for Reporting
Exercise 3.0 - An introduction to templating with Jinja2
Exercise 3.1 - Building dynamic documentation using the command parser

Please note that a light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Attendees must bring a laptop with ADMIN rights and the ability to SSH to a lab environment hosted in a public cloud.

  • Basic understanding of what Ansible is and how it works with networking devices

Who Can Benefit

This workshop is geared toward network operators, network engineers, cloud administrators, DevOps engineers, security professionals and anyone interested in network automation.

Requirements for Attendees

  • An internet connection is required. Attendees must come with a laptop with admin rights and the ability to SSH to a lab environment hosted in a public cloud.
  • Attendees should have working knowledge of using SSH and command line shell (BASH) as well as a conceptual understanding of linux system administration (how to use simple commands like cd, ls, mv, mkdir, etc).
  • Attendees should have working knowledge of at least one Linux text editor (nano, pico, vi/vim, zile, emacs) with which to write Ansible playbooks.
