Red Hat's containers and cloud native 101 workshop

March 29, 2023 | 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (GMT-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

OVERVIEW

This hands-on workshop will equip participants with knowledge about cloud-native application development, examining the optimization of existing applications to becoming cloud-native with event-driven serverless architecture.

This workshop will guide developers through the process of getting started on their own cloud-native journey, beginning with monolithic application migration to a modern container platform using Red Hat® OpenShift®, as well as modernizing applications using microservices and Red Hat Runtimes. We’ll also demonstrate how developers can begin their event-driven journey by implementing a subset of a microservices application using an end-to-end, event-driven architecture. The workshop will introduce serverless design into the architecture, allowing applications to dynamically scale up and down based on changing demand.

Goal of workshop

This workshop will show how to take an existing monolithic application and begin the process of migration and modernization. We’ll cover the process of moving the application off of a legacy Java™ platform and onto JBoss® Enterprise Application Platform, followed by cloud with Red Hat OpenShift. We will use incremental steps to refactor the application to microservices, making use of Red Hat OpenShift to effectively deploy and manage it at scale in a cloud environment.

We will also cover descriptions of several products that have features targeted at distributed, event-driven architectures. Developers will add high performance, an event-driven caching system to an existing application, and evolve the application architecture to use event-driven messaging and serverless deployment techniques to achieve greater application performance in a cloud environment.

Featured products in this workshop:

  • Red Hat OpenShift (4, Serverless)
  • Red Hat Integration (AMQ Streams)
  • Red Hat Runtimes (Quarkus, Data Grid, Spring Boot)
  • Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces
  • Migration Toolkit for Applications
