Red Hat User Group

July 16, 20196:30 PM - 8:30 PMShadow-Soft

Join us for the next Atlanta OpenShift and Kubernetes meetup!

This event will feature a deep dive into the Service Mesh, with three separate speakers talking about velocity, performance and ease of use in detail...

The service mesh is about velocity

Why a service mesh (beyond your cluster!) is about velocity.

Speaker: Dan Ciruli

Dan Ciruli is a senior product manager in Google Cloud focusing on delivering API and Services infrastructure to enterprises. He has spent 6 years working on modern services infrastructure at Google, working on internal projects, commercial products and in open source. Prior to Google, Dan led a product team at EMC streamlining developer experience and was a founder at Digipede Technologies and at Energy Interactive. He was a founding board member of the Open API Initiative.

Understanding performance in Istio 1.2

Istio 1.2 just shipped! Let’s do a run through of everything that’s new and updated in the latest release of Istio. Then let’s do a deep dive on how you too can test your service mesh deployment and measure latency and overhead, in a repeated manner, for your own clusters. Understanding performance helps inform how to right-size your clusters and how to interpret the impact of a service mesh.

Speaker: Sandeep Parikh

Sandeep is a Cloud Native Advocate for Google Cloud, where he focuses on making it easier for developers and operators to adopt cloud native tools and practices, such as Kubernetes and Istio. Sandeep’s background is in software engineering and he's worked for Apple, MongoDB, Ravel, 21CT, and Affinegy. He has developed reference architectures and best practices for running hybrid infrastructure deployments and large-scale data processing pipelines as well as software systems to analyze social networks, document similarity, and text sentiment. Sandeep holds a Bachelors in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas.

Istio the easy way with SuperGloo and Service Mesh Hub

Our mission is to help users adopt and use service mesh. This session will explain how the open source SuperGloo Project and the Service Mesh Hub dashboard make it easy for anyone to get started with Istio -- from install, configuration to operations -- and also extend your service with new functionality like canary deployments, chaos engineering, observability and more.

Speaker: Scott Weiss

Scott Weiss is a principal software engineer at Solo.io building projects like Gloo, a function level API gateway built on Envoy Proxy and SuperGloo, a service mesh orchestrator. Scott builds software that works with popular open source projects like Istio, Knative, Envoy Proxy and more. Prior to Solo.io, Scott held various engineering roles at RedHat, EMC and Sonos.
