Transform Your Business with Enterprise Open Source

Red Hat Coffee Hour with Michael Tiemann

September 13, 2022 | 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM | (GMT-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

OVERVIEW

Join us on September 13 at the next Red Hat® Coffee Hour as we celebrate International Programmers' Day and honor programmers and innovators. We’ll sit down with Michael Tiemann, Red Hat’s former Vice President of Open Source Affairs, who is a true open source software pioneer.

Every week, for more than 10 years, Michael Tiemann was one of the first people to welcome new associates to Red Hat. As the founder of the world's first open source software company, Cygnus Solutions, Tiemann provided these new hires with a grounding in open source history, but also open source currency as it related to Red Hat's strategy and opportunities for individual success at Red Hat.

Michael will discuss why and how enterprise leaders are choosing the open source development model and technologies built with this model to transform their enterprise and differentiate their business.  He’ll share the history of open source,  dispel its myths and share its many benefits, give examples of how it is being used today, and explain why it is gaining in popularity. You’ll learn how to harness its power for success in a world where fear, uncertainty, and doubt continue to prevent people and companies from reaching their true potential.

Michael Tiemann

In 1989, Michael Tiemann co-founded Cygnus Solutions, the first company to provide commercial support for open source software. During his 10 years at Cygnus, Tiemann contributed to a number of roles, from president to hacker, helping lead the company from fledgling start-up to an open source leader. In January 2000, Cygnus Solutions was acquired by Red Hat, and Tiemann became Red Hat's Chief Technical Officer. In 2004, he became the company's first Vice President of Open Source Affairs.  After an introduction to the OS-Climate Project by Jim Whitehurst in 2019, Tiemann volunteered to bring open source software and best practices to help asset owners, asset managers, and the larger financial services industry align to the Paris Climate Agreement.  OS-Climate made its debut at the COP26 conference in Glasgow, Scotland. Member organizations collectively have more than $10T USD assets under management.  Red Hat is a member of the OS-Climate project and a key technology provider.
