IN-PERSON EVENT

Developer Roadshow featuring OpenShift 4.10 Mobile Lab

June 14, 2022 - June 16, 2022Bridgeport, West VirginiaRed Hat Trilogy Office

From Java™ to .NET | Frontend to Backend | Monolith to Microservice | Database to Data Lake | Server-Bound to Serverless | Network Stress to Service Mesh - It works on OpenShift®!

Hands-on labs & a Free-Roam OpenShift Mobile Lab where you can test drive OpenShift 4 to its limits! This extends to all developers, DevOps, operations, security teams, etc.

Explore the boundless latent features of the platform while rapidly prototyping from a large collection of custom applications, curated templates, databases, operators and more. Participants can also bring their own source/applications/workloads/expectations to work with the specialists to work in real-time, evaluating how OpenShift can work immediately in any environment / application stack.

This lab is open and the App/Dev Specialists are onsite to support any pursuit/questions/plans!

Content / labs

  1. OpenShift Administrator & Developer Console Free Roam
  2. Create a Project and Deploy curated application examples
    • Learn OpenShift by example, we’ll have Catalog Templates available that illustrates how to abstract the process of onboarding applications to OpenShift using all platform-native tooling
    • OpenShift Pipelines, Operators, etc.
    • Understand the full SDLC capabilities OpenShift presents
    • Understand OpenShift / Kubernetes workflow and objects
    • Deployment, Pipeline, Service, Route, and more.
    • Work through common Application re-platform and deployment scenarios
    • Use Environment Variables and Volume Mounts to inject Secrets and Data into Applications during runtime (Connection Strings, Configuration Settings, etc.)
    • Debugging and working with application lifecycle on OpenShift
  3. Building Reusable Content / Templates
    • Understanding the object definitions of the platform allows us to abstract those as yaml templates so we can move towards a GitOps approach to deployment and app management or at the very least provide a means to make Application Deployments reusable
    • These templates can leverage a multitude of ‘variable substitution’ processes, either platform-native or via other tools like Helm and Kustomize or even using Sed
  4. CodeReady Workspaces (CRW) and the Developer Experience
    • Develop, Deploy, Deliver - All on-platform within our secure network where our OpenShift Cluster Resides
    • CRW provides a full Developer experience, IDE, Plugins, Tools, Dependencies, Supporting Services - all delivered via a container-native backend - meaning, if you’re developing your application in CRW then you’re already containerized
  5. Cluster Failure Simulation
    • Several Testing Operators allow us to test the might of our platform and the resilience of our workloads - once we’ve got applications deployed on-platform, we’ll test out just how resilient OpenShift is
  6. Advanced OCP Tools Sandbox
    • Advanced Cluster Security (ACS)
    • Advanced Cluster Management (ACM)
    • Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
    • And more Red Hat Operators
