Join us as Adam Clater, Chief Architect at Red Hat®, sits down with Kelsey Hightower, Principal Engineer for Google Cloud and self-taught technologist. Kelsey has become the welcoming face of kubernetes for many developers looking to make their way with this new and complex technology. But he wasn’t always - After finding college less than challenging, Kelsey achieved his A+ certification and secured a job as a DSL technician for Bell South at the age of 19. During this session, Adam will discuss with Kelsey how he grew up in the technology industry and learned how to explain cloud and tech to newbies, and what the future holds for kubernetes, technology and open source.
Kelsey Hightower is a Principal Engineer at Google working on Google’s Cloud Platform. He has helped develop and refine many Google Cloud products including Google’s Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Functions, and Apigees’s API Gateway. Kelsey spends most of his time with executives and developers spanning the global fortune 1000 helping them understand and leverage Google technologies and platforms to grow their businesses. Kelsey is also a huge open-source contributor and currently maintains multiple projects that aid software developers and operations professionals in building and shipping cloud native applications. He is also an accomplished author and keynote speaker with a knack for demystifying complex topics and enabling others to succeed.
Kelsey is also known for his work in the community and was the inaugural winner of the CNCF Top Ambassador award for his work in helping bootstrap the Kubernetes community. He is also a mentor and technical advisor helping founders turn their visions into reality.
Adam works internationally with federal agencies, integrators and Red Hat partners & Communities to promote and define the use of enterprise open source solutions.
Adam has experienced first hand the evolving role that I.T. has played in the federal government for nearly two decades, starting with his role as a Systems Administrator at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1997.
Prior to joining Red Hat, Adam was a senior architect, system administrator and lead for a variety of commercial and government agencies including: Lockheed Martin - U.S. Army, The National Education Association, RSA Security, AOL/Time Warner.
