WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

In this workshop you will learn how to modernize an existing legacy monolithic application by applying microservice architecture principles, using modern lightweight runtimes like WildFly Swarm and Spring Boot, and deploying to container-based infrastructure using OpenShift Container Platform. This combination of architectures and deployment platforms opens up new possibilities for applying DevOps processes to improve the speed of development and deployment.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
DEV participants are expected to be familiar with general application development concepts and have basic skills with the following: OPS participants should have a systems administration / storage / operations focus, with the following suggested tools and/or skills:
  • Java programming
  • Apache Maven build tool
  • Linux command line
  • Containers and Docker
  • An SSH client on your laptop (PuTTY for Windows preferred)
  • Competency on the Linux command line
  • A general/high-level understanding of Linux containers (e.g., Docker, CRI-O, etc.)
  • A general/high-level understanding of authentication (e.g., LDAP/AD)

REQUIREMENTS
  • A modern browser with Javascript and cookies enabled.
  • An SSH client is required with the ability to use private key authentication. Windows users are recommended to use PuTTY.

For all attendees a laptop with Windows, Linux, or MacOS is needed, and WiFi connection.
