VIRTUAL Event

Red Hat Coffee Hour with Intel

November 4, 20213:00 PM - 4:00 PM(UTC-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

The Red Hat® Coffee Hour with Intel series is a monthly videocast featuring luminaries from technology, society and the world of STEM. Topics for discussion will include governmental and societal impacts of technology and open source as well as the role of technology and work/life balance.

As our nation grapples with the changes brought on by COVID-19, we will hear from highly credible experts in their field who will inform, educate and inspire us all.

Open source communities provide models for innovation across technologies, processes, and culture. In open source communities, the best ideas win no matter where they come from, code and processes are transparent and shared with all, and it’s everyone’s job to assure quality and security.

You could certainly say that NASA Astronaut Peggy Whitson likes her space - in fact in 2017, she set the record for the most cumulative days spent in space of any NASA Astronaut at more than 534 days. She’s spent in excess of two years total in space, and was voted one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential people of 2018. Join us, while Adam Clater, Chief Architect of Red Hat and Peggy talk about the career arc that led her to be a NASA Chief Astronaut, Commander of the International Space Station and more than 60 hours worth of space walks. Dr. Peggy Whitson will provide her insights on the evolving commercial space race 70 years after JFK and second industrial revolution.

Peggy Whitson, Record-Breaking NASA Astronaut and Biochemist

Peggy A. Whitson (PH.D.), Record-Breaking NASA Astronaut and Biochemist

Precious few human beings are able to say they’ve been lucky enough to travel to space. Peggy Whitson, however, is in a league of her own. The veteran astronaut has an incredible list of record-breaking accomplishments to hername: first woman to command the International Space Station twice (2008 & 2013); first non-military Chief Astronaut and most spacewalks (10) of any female astronaut, the most spacewalks completed by a woman (at 60 hours, 21 minutes total) and third most of any spacefarer; and at 665 days, Dr. Whitson has spent more time in space than any other American.

Dr. Peggy Whitson is a NASA astronaut and biochemist. She flew on Expedition 50/51 and participated in four spacewalks, bringing her career total to ten. With a total of 665 days in space, Whitson holds the U.S. record, placing eighth on the all-time space endurance list. The Iowa native also completed two six-month tours of duty aboard the station for Expedition 5 in 2002, and as the station commander for Expedition 16 in 2008 where she accumulated 377 days in space between the two missions, the most for any U.S. woman at the time of her return to Earth.
