The Red Hat® Coffee Hour with Intel series is a monthly videocast featuring luminaries from technology, society and the world of STEM. Topics for discussion will include governmental and societal impacts of technology and open source as well as the role of technology and work/life balance.

As our nation grapples with the changes brought on by COVID-19, we will hear from highly credible experts in their field who will inform, educate and inspire us all.

Open source communities provide models for innovation across technologies, processes, and culture. In open source communities, the best ideas win no matter where they come from, code and processes are transparent and shared with all, and it’s everyone’s job to assure quality and security.

Managing cybersecurity risk is what Payton knows and does best. She identifies emerging trends and techniques to help audiences combat cyber threats, from the impact of the Internet of Things to securing Big Data.

Theresa Payton
First Female White House CIO, Leading Cybersecurity Expert, 2019 Woman Cybersecurity Leader of the Year, and 2020 Cybersecurity Crusader of the Year

As one of the nation’s most respected authorities on cybersecurity, Theresa Payton is also a highly sought-after AI keynote speaker. Theresa is a visionary in the digital world leading the way as an inventor of new security designs and has an approved US patent in security. She captivates audiences by drawing from her experience as a veteran cybercrime fighter and entrepreneur, masterfully blending memorable anecdotes with cutting-edge insights.

She identifies emerging trends and techniques to help audiences combat cyber threats, from the impact of the Internet of Things to securing Big Data. Payton is the cybersecurity expert that organizations turn to for discreet help during data breaches and to improve IT systems and strategies. She made history as the first female to serve as White House Chief Information Officer and currently helps organizations in both the public and private sectors protect their most valuable resources.

Before overseeing IT operations as CIO for President George W. Bush and his administration, she held executive roles in banking technology for two of the country’s top financial institutions. After serving in the White House, she went on to co-found Dark3, a cybersecurity product company, and Fortalice Solutions, a world-class cybersecurity consulting firm ranked a “Top 5 Most Innovative Cybersecurity Company” in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC.

Lucy Kerner
Director, Security Global Strategy and Evangelism

Lucy Kerner is currently the Director, Security Global Strategy and Evangelism at Red Hat and leads security thought leadership, evangelism, and the technical and go-to-market strategy for security across the entire Red Hat portfolio globally. In addition, she helps create and deliver security related technical content to the field, customers, partners, analysts, and press and has spoken at numerous events, including security conferences, such as RSA and Hack3rCon/SecureWV, and is a Red Hat Summit Top Presenter. Lucy is also a frequent author of security articles at various online magazines , such as TechBeacon, TechSpective, Increment Magazine, and more. Prior to her current role, she was a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect for the North America Public Sector team at Red Hat where she presented and designed cloud solutions for a wide range of North America public sector customers. Lucy has 20 years of professional experience as both a software and hardware development engineer, solutions architect, and global security strategist and evangelist, where she worked on various aspects of security. Prior to joining Red Hat, she worked at IBM as both a Mainframe microprocessor design engineer and a solutions architect for IBM x86 servers. She has also interned at Apple, Cadence, Lockheed Martin, and MITRE, where she worked on both software and hardware development. Lucy graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Master of Science (M.S.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Minor in Spanish.

Adam Clater
Chief Architect
Red Hat

Adam works internationally with federal agencies, integrators and Red Hat partners & Communities to promote and define the use of enterprise open source solutions.

Adam has experienced first hand the evolving role that I.T. has played in the federal government for nearly two decades, starting with his role as a Systems Administrator at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1997.

Prior to joining Red Hat, Adam was a senior architect, system administrator and lead for a variety of commercial and government agencies including: Lockheed Martin - U.S. Army, The National Education Association, RSA Security, AOL/Time Warner.
