Doug Shakshober, Senior Manager Software Engineering & Senior Consulting Software Engineer, Red Hat

Douglas Shakshober (Shak) is a senior consulting engineer and director of the Performance Engineering team at Red Hat. His team focuses on characterization, optimization, and performance of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel, KVM virtualization technology, Red Hat Open Stack Platform, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Storage Server. The team uses benchmarks and partners with OEMs and ISVs to test applications in high-end databases, web servers, and enterprise environments. Shak has a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Larry Woodman, Consulting Software Engineer, Red Hat

Larry Woodman has over 36 years of operating system kernel development experience. He started contributing to the AT&T system V UNIX kernel in 1981 at Bell Labs. Over the years he has worked on several versions of UNIX as well as several proprietary operating systems for a variety of hardware and software vendors.  For the past 20 years Larry has been working on the Linux kernel, mostly for Red Hat. The majority of work has been mostly in the memory management, process management and inter process communication spaces but also includes work on file systems, hardware support code and device drivers.  Larry holds Bachelors degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Computer Science and Masters degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering.

Joe Mario, Senior Principle Engineer, Red Hat

Joe has worked in compiler and operating system performance teams for the past 2​7 years. ​He spent years implementing compiler and tool optimizations in the OS and customer code for three different operating systems. His recent focus has been on co-developing a tool to detect cpu cacheline false sharing, low latency tuning, and performance work for recent Spectre-Meltdown type security issues. Joe holds a Bachelors degree is Electrical Engineering, and a Masters degree in Computer Science.
